| My friends in Ticino, Switzerland have fascinating plants in their yard. One that I love is the thornberry bush. It's thorns are long and menacing and the berries are delicate jewels -- slightly transparent so that you can see a three-dimensional illusion of structure inside. As I sketched this bush, I pushed the dichotomy of potential pain juxtaposed with potential nourishment by merging the berries and thorns into one form. These Sterling Silver pieces are finished with a patina which I call my "Hematite" patina. |
